Norton Healthcare, Norton Children’s expands care to Bowling Green
BOWLING GREEN, Ky. (WBKO) – Norton Healthcare and Norton Children’s have officially expanded services into Bowling Green with the celebration of the opening of their new location at 615 E. Seventh Ave.
The expansion was part of a $1.2 million investment to integrate the well-known and respected practice formerly known as Bowling Green Internal Medicine & Pediatric Associates.
“The 1.2 million [dollars] is specifically in facility and equipment upgrades and improvements,” said Russell Cox, President & CEO of Norton Healthcare. “We’ll continue to invest in [a] provider workforce and anyone who can provide care and services as we continue to grow services.”
The new acquisition will allow for enhanced primary care and build on the significant investments made by Norton Children’s existing practices in the community.
“We’re so excited to join these resources together to continue our long-standing medical home model that we can see children, their parents, their grandparents, their great grandparents, we have several generational families here so we want to continue that,” said Dr. Paul Kniery, a Internal Medicine Physician with Norton Children’s and Norton Healthcare.
The office features 9,000 square feet of space that will be split between pediatrics and adult primary care. It will allow for the further advancement of care for children and increase the offerings for adults in the community.
“From a pediatric perspective, a lot of people venture to Louisville for pediatric care,” Cox said. “We felt that this is a great opportunity to have services within the city of Bowling Green, where people can stay closer to home. One of the things that have come to bear is that outcomes improve when care is delivered closer to home, the support system is stronger, the familiarity breeds healing a little bit better.”
The practice will maintain its existing team of providers for both children and adults. In addition, with more than 25,000 visits expected this year, the practice will also offer wellness checkups, sports physicals, vaccinations, sick visits, pulmonary function, electrocardiogram testing, and more.
“We’ve always been a growing practice,” Dr. Kniery said. “And at some point, we hit the limit on what we could do without more support and Norton’s providing depth of childhood specialty care and resources that aren’t available here until now. And we are honored to be part of their family.”
The acquisition may mark Norton Healthcare’s latest investment in the Bowling Green area, but the hospital began offering pediatric cardiology services in Bowling Green in the 1960s.
In the years since it has added neurology, urology, and neonatal follow-up services at Norton Children’s Outpatient Center located at 720 Second Ave.
