Union Minister of State for Power and New and Renewable Energy, Shri Shripad Naik, visited the Andhra Pradesh MedTech Zone (AMTZ), where he inaugurated the launch of AMTZ’s 1MW Solar Park for Phase-II, emphasizing the importance of sustainable infrastructure in the medical technology sector. This initiative aligns with India’s broader goal to integrate renewable energy into essential industries and reduce the carbon footprint of medical device production.
During his visit, the Minister also had the opportunity to explore AMTZ’s Solar-Powered Tricycle, an innovative mobility solution aimed at supporting people with disabilities. This project combines clean energy with assistive technology, showcasing AMTZ’s commitment to inclusive healthcare solutions that prioritize both accessibility and environmental sustainability.
The event also saw the signing of several strategic Memorandums of Understanding (MoUs) between AMTZ and leading institutions. These collaborations are set to enhance research, development, and production capabilities in the MedTech sector, ultimately strengthening India’s position in global healthcare innovation.
In his address, Minister Shripad Naik praised AMTZ, stating, “AMTZ is a prime example of India’s capabilities in healthcare technology innovation. Under Dr. Jitendra Sharma’s leadership, AMTZ has played a key role in reducing India’s reliance on imports and promoting local innovation, making India self-reliant in the MedTech sector.”
The Minister’s visit highlighted AMTZ’s ongoing efforts to blend advanced technology with sustainable practices, positioning the zone as a pioneer in eco-friendly healthcare manufacturing. With projects like the Solar Park, Solar-Powered Tricycles, and continuous investments in assistive technology, AMTZ is driving India’s vision of a self-sufficient and sustainable healthcare manufacturing ecosystem.
Dr Jitendra Sharma, in his remarks, shared AMTZ’s long-term sustainability goals, stating, “Through initiatives like the solar-powered tricycle and the Solar Park, we are setting new standards in renewable energy adoption for the MedTech sector. Our aim is to become 100% energy neutral within the next decade, mapping carbon footprints individually and encouraging employees to reduce emissions.”
