La Plata plans its first Municipal Veterinary Hospital: a model of health and sustainability serving the community
La ciudad de La Plata could become a pioneer in the region with the creation of a **[Municipal Veterinary Hospital]( a proposal that seeks to guarantee **free or low-cost care** for **[pets and animals]( living on the streets. The project has already been submitted to the Deliberative Council and has begun to be discussed in the **Health** committee.
The initiative aims to address a growing issue: the increase in the animal population, abandonment, and the lack of access to **basic veterinary services**. The economic crisis has left many families unable to afford **treatments, vaccines, or sterilizations**, directly impacting community health.
The hospital would operate 365 days a year under the supervision of the **municipal Health Secretariat**. Its services would include basic medical care, emergencies, sterilization, vaccination, imaging diagnostics, deworming, and educational programs on responsible animal care.
The building will have consulting rooms, a clinical analysis laboratory, emergency room, intensive care unit, isolation areas for contagious diseases, and hospitalization sections. In this way, it will not only provide **immediate assistance** but also a space for **prevention and education** regarding animal health.
