KPJ’s New Sustainability Policy To Boost Its Green Healthcare Initiatives
KUALA LUMPUR, Nov 14 (Bernama) — KPJ Healthcare Berhad is set to implement environmentally responsible new Sustainability Policy practices across its 29 hospitals, focusing on reducing environmental impact through renewable energy, energy efficiency, waste management and green building standards.
The policy that aligns with the country’s goal of achieving Net Zero Emissions by 2050 was launched during KPJ’s Sustainability Day, to strengthen its commitment towards green healthcare.
As a testament to its commitment, Damansara Specialist Hospital 2 (DSH2) becomes the first hospital in KPJ’s network of hospitals to receive the Green Building Index (GBI) certification, which recognises the hospital’s high standards in energy efficiency, sustainable site planning and indoor environmental quality.
KPJ Healthcare chairman Tan Sri Dr Ismail Bakar said the newly launched policy embeds responsible practices into every area of the healthcare’s operations, reducing environmental impact while upholding the highest standards.
“With the GBI certification for DSH2, we are setting a standard for environmental responsibility that reflects our commitment to the communities we serve,” he said in a statement recently.
Meanwhile, President and Managing Director of KPJ Healthcare Chin Keat Chyuan said the policy directs the group’s use of renewable energy, waste management strategies and green building standards across their hospitals.
“KPJ Healthcare has a role to play in this journey, reinforcing our commitment to a healthier future for both our patients and the planet,” he said.
Moving forward, KPJ assures that it will strengthen its sustainability practices, building on the policy to set new benchmarks for environmentally responsible healthcare.
KPJ also targets to establish a healthcare model which prioritises both patient care and environmental responsibility.
With more than 1,300 medical consultants on board, KPJ Healthcare treats more than 3.3 million patients annually with 19 of its hospitals accredited by the Malaysian Society for Quality in Health (MSQH) while four are accredited by the Joint Commission International (JCI).
